The System is initially equipped with a STM-16 SDH transmission system but currently being upgraded to WDM. The System is jointly owned and operated by Rostelecom, Russia, FOPTNET, Georgia and DanTelco, Denmark.

The main directions of the fundamental research of our Academy include the development of new technologies for packet networks, studying the properties of electromagnetic fields, quantum methods of information crypting, etc. The main directions of the applied research of our Academy include the development of methods for optimizing and evaluating the effectiveness of telecommunication networks construction, design of telecommunication networks, development of tariff policy models for telecommunication services, development of new infocommunication services, the development of new technologies for telecommunication systems protection etc. Scientific and pedagogical staff occupies key position in creation of Ukrainian scientific and technical policy in telecommunication area. Today, the leading scientists of the Academy are working on the creation of the new technology of building a worldwide packet network UA-EX, the implementation of the global system of limiting access to unallowed information resources, and on the creation of several unique software products.
